CLASSIC

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

Here are a few of the basic building blocks of my wardrobe.  Black, brown, navy, and grey- all together!  This classic combination is what you will find me in daily.

Worth noting:
A mid length sleeve looks great on pretty much anyone.
A grey leather coat will go with absolutely everything.
When thrifting for fall, always search out great wool pieces.

Sadly all of these pieces are old or thrifted (except for the amazing boots of course, found here). I thought I might pull some good options…if your interested.

PRINTED

This red dress is a bit of a departure from my regular uniform.  Colors can be hard for me to commit to, but with prints I have an immediate reaction- Love it or hate it.

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to pop into the amazing Les Nouvelles showroom and grab a few things for my trip to Nashville.  The lovely LN girls helped me to sort through the racks of crazy gorgeous options and this is just one of three outfits that we put together.

I immediately gravitated toward this dress.  Red is not something that I typically wear, but this bright tomato colored shirt dress caught my attention.

Retro inspired, in a classic color combination, the brush stroke print feels surprisingly fresh and modern.  Grounded with a pair of dark tights and my trusted blue booties- it turned out to be an awesome mix perfect for a Fall day in Nashville.

I have such a blast shooting with the super talented John Hillin!  I sure am lucky that my sweet little sis will occasionally give up her photographer and spend the afternoon trying to distract me from the camera and keep me laughing.

OVERSIZED

I found this amazing coat at Les Nouvelles last week.  I was picking up a gaggle of gorgeous clothes to shoot in Nashville and spotted it on the sale rack.

It was love at first sight!

Little did I know the rest of the week I would be an ABSOLUTE train wreck, traveling around exhausted and sick, and in desperate need of a beautiful coat to hide under.

That's the best part about an oversized statement coat like this one- they can make anyone look polished and put together.

KNITS

It could be said that I have a serious addiction to cardigan sweaters.

This long double layer cardigan came from a shop in Portland.  I snuck out of the hotel room to walk along the water when I spotted it in the window. Attending University of Texas Austin means you have a radar for all things burnt orange….for the rest of your life.

These ponte leggings are a Fall favorite of mine.  A not so basic staple, the leather patches at the knee make them feel more like pants and less like tights.  I am a huge fan of leather combined with other fabrics!  I love the contrast of hard and soft….taking a material that is usually tough and refining it, it offers the best of both worlds.

Oh, speaking of Portland…no we are not moving there (right now) and yes I am grumpy about it.  But, I do have this lovely cozy sweater and many other things to remind me of the city I love, and fingers crossed we will make it there sooner then later.

So now you know.

On a happier note, I have some really exciting news to share soon about an opportunity that has come my way.  When one door closes, another one opens…and all that silly stuff people say to make sad people happy.  I am thankful for the distraction and beyond thrilled to be working with some crazy talented ladies.  Stay tuned…

LEATHER

Thursday, October 31, 2013

Shades of Fall and a BEAUTIFUL sunset, these are the last of the pictures that Miss Mary took for me.

There are few things more versatile then a great leather jacket.  If you choose carefully, it should work with everything from jeans and a tee, to the fanciest of frocks.

I grabbed this dress at a great little shop in Nashville.  I am excited to put it on with tights this winter, because if I am being honest... it's a bit short for me in the front.  I'm thinking with my new brown boots and a cream open knit pullover, it might be the winter boho look I have been going for!

Happy Halloween!
