A DAY

Exactly one year ago today we officially became a family of four.

After one of the most challenging and life changing years, we let go of our worries and celebrated.

As a family we entered the courtroom full of emotion, still holding our breath and hoping for the best.  It's just one of those things that you can't be certain of…and then a moment later…relief.  A piece of paper and few signatures and you feel safe and protected.  Finally.

Adoption is a daunting and terrifying option.  It is painful and scary and expensive.  This is true.

BUT,

Adoption is a truly amazing and incredible process.  The journey is unexplainable…there simply are no words for the ways in which you grow and learn more about yourself and the world around you.

Only after it is over can you look back and smile and be completely thankful.  After some time has passed and you reflect and realize just how lucky you are to have been given such an opportunity.  You  see the purpose and recognize the importance of the experience.

Sawyer Nell is an absolute miracle.  She changed us all forever.  There is not a single day that goes by that we don't look at her in amazement.  We are so lucky and have so much.  Adoption quickly put things in perspective, it taught us about what really matters and what is worth a fight.

Today is a special time for us to remember the peace that we found in the judges chambers and the joy that we felt in the moments that followed.

Looking back at these beautiful images,  it reminds me of how quickly things can change and how very fortunate I am.

Congratulations!!! So happy for the four of you :)
I haven't adopt or something but I totally agree/can imagine that you can't compair the emotions and feelings to anything else. Adoption is something special and with that, there also come special feelings and emotions along.
Enjoy your little one(s) and celebrate that beautiful family of yours :)

Happy adoption anniversary! Thank you for sharing your adoption story, I hope it gives others the hope and courage to begin/get through the process themselves. I love that the day has been captured so beautifully. You are a lucky family of four!
