Films Worth Seeing: Exit Through The Gift Shop
Thursday, April 7, 2011
We stubbled upon this movie one night randomly and it has sort of started a small obsession for me with street art. I have always loved pop art.....Andy Warhol has been a favorite since high school......but that was about the extent of it.
I had seen the artist Bansky's name in the news and maybe on a blog over the years, but knew little about him. He is mysterious, with his identity unknown. Exit Through The Gift Shop is a movie about urban art and the important figures in the movement, Bansky being the most relevant. His art is often political, controversial, and always meaningful!
Without giving too much away......the main character is this crazy little french man that goes around filming the street artists with the goal of producing a documentary. He is immersed, and then obsessed, with the process and eventually becomes an artist in his own right. A very successful one known now as Mr. Brainwash.
After watching the film I wanted to know more. There is much controversy and plenty of chatter on the internet over the film......the authenticity of the works produced by Brainwash and Banskys involvement ........
See for yourself!
