John Stezaker

In the early 1970s John Stezaker was among the first wave of British conceptual artists. His work re-examines the various relationships to the photographic image: as documentation of truth, purveyor of memory, and symbol of modern culture. In his collages, Stezaker appropriates images found in books, magazines, and postcards and uses them as ‘readymades’.

I think that these are so lovely! There is something very romantic and charming about them! I'm not sure if it is the beautiful old black and white photographs and film, or the gorgeous retro postcards.....but I love them!

What if the combination of the two images was not random? Can you imagine doing this type of work on photos of people that you actually know? I hate having my photograph taken, so this is my kind of portrait!

I wonder, what kind of postcard would be fitting for me?

Brilliant! Can't believe they are from the 1970s, the way he combines the pictures is so modern!
