MONICA SQUITIERI

Thursday, September 5, 2013

I absolutely LOVE hands heavy, fingers full of stacked rings!

My preference:  mixed metal, no stones,  simple and organic designs that will go with everything, interesting and unique shapes........basically any and all of the lovely rings pictured above.

When it comes to jewelry, I am building a collection.  I rarely ever by trendy/of the moment pieces.  Instead, I save and splurge to get things that I will keep and treasure forever, pieces that are seasonless and timeless, jewelry that can be mixed and matched endlessly and worn again and again.

Monica Squitieri is currently designed and created in Los Angeles.  Inspired by California's landscapes each piece is individually carved, casted, stamped and finished by hand.  The type of quality and craftsmanship that I have grown to appreciate.

Using mostly recycled metals, the collection is comprised of well edited pieces that can be ordered in brass, bronze, silver or gold......you choose.

FAB

I love architectural jewelry.

Simple clean lines, thoughtful design- Often it can make a sweet look modern and edgy. I love to pair these pieces with big statement necklaces or ornate cuffs. Somehow it balances everything out and keeps me from feeling coordinated.

Here are my current favorites from Fab. They always have such a great mix!

MINERALOGY

How insanely gorgeous are these jewels?

I would choose rough natural materials over polished and faceted precious stones every day.  Wouldn't you?!

Everyone on the planet is making jewelry right now, right?  So that makes it even more exciting when you find something unique.  I think that these pieces by Nikki Couppee are cool and different and GORGEOUS!
'My current work talks about the different functions jewelry performs in society. Objects of personal adornment have the ability to define a person’s social status, question value and serve as a redeemable investment. Often given to mark a special occasion or milestone, jewelry can also perform on a psychological level with the transference of deep feelings onto the object. I am seeking to create opulent jewelry that is reminiscent of royal jewelry but made out of quotidian materials instead of precious gems and metals. With the use of everyday materials, I am able to create jewelry that surpasses in size and extravagance the scope of the royal jewels I admire, almost to the point of absurdity. Stainless steel, mild steel, Plexiglas, wood, brass and polymer clay are used as substitutes for diamonds, crystal, coral, gold and seed pearls. I insert an element of decay by allowing the mild steel to rust naturally against the stainless, thus adding a layer of impermanence which challenges the market value of the work and forces one to reflect on its potential changes over time.'
Amazing right?

Aurelie Bidermann

These beautiful gold jewels will go perfectly the gorgeous tan and toned body I plan to have this summer!

Today it was abnormally warm. It was AMAZING weather and I don't mean to complain, but.....I was still hoping to hide under cozy sweaters and dark tights for at least another few weeks. Sunshiny days just aren't as welcome when you feel pale!

"Aurelie Bidermann has built a unique world where symbolism still holds a major roll, where the past and present are combined with originality, where nature, travel, history but also photography, architecture and music, are endless sources of inspiration."

She has collaborated with Proenza Schouler and Jason Wu and has a loyal following that includes Sophia Coppola and Gwyneth Paltrow. IMPRESSIVE!
