Here is the Master Bedroom. The room is small and cozy and best of all FULL of sunlight! I put curtains up in all of the bedrooms for privacy, but we never close these. All four windows look out to trees and greenery. It is so beautiful!

There is no television in this room on purpose. It is a first for us, but we are thrilled to have given it up!

You will notice there are MANY things that need purchasing.....bedside tables, bedding, a piece for above the bed. I think its common to leave your room until last, fixing up the rest of the house first. The majority of the furniture and decor in this room have been with us since college.

This is the third house I have hung these curtains in: Atlanta living room, Dallas dining room, now the bedroom. I am a huge fan of the World Market Curtains! They have great sales and carry most of their products for a hundred years, so you can always go back for more panels. It is extremely important to me that I don't buy things for one room in particular. I feel in order to have a great collection you have to buy things that can be versatile and go in any space in your home.

The two credenzas are in pretty bad shape! I picked them up for ten dollars a piece at a garage sale and replaced the knobs for under five. I love them as they are, but I know that when I spend the money to have them refinished they will look amazing! The shape and size are really good for any room.

I'm constantly hunting down ideas for this room, evidenced by my very long list of inspiration photos on Pinterest and my excitement over yesterdays post.....Design Sponge and Lonny Magazine. Hopefully I will be sharing some photos of improvements made soon!

So here is my little girls room. I can not believe that she is not a baby anymore!

Carson's room has a great mix of furniture, prints, and patterns. Instead of buying a matching coordinating set of furniture, I repurposed a few pieces we already owned and found some great new textiles. The striped rug was the inspiration for the whole color scheme in the nursery, and later for her 'big girl,' bedding.

I wanted to come up with something special and original for above the crib. The initials are still one of my favorite parts of the room! I am currently working on a new piece for above the bed and dresser. (hopefully I will be posting about it soon!)

When we moved into the new house we painted all the bedrooms this lovely shade of gray. It's another Behr paint from Home Depot, called Ash. I love shades of gray with brown! I think it goes so well with all of Carson's things!

The best part of Carson's room is that there are no toys thrown around! I love that her room is full of sunshine and books and pretty dresses and nothing else! I think that the playroom, and the separation of the toys, really allows her to rest and relax in her room without distraction. Carson is a huge reader! I know this sounds silly at her age, but it is true. She literally sits up and reads to her animals every night. I love that her room is a special and magical place for her!

Welcome to the Playroom.......this is where all the action happens!

When we moved into the new house the absolute best part about it was that it was kid friendly! The playroom is where we spend the majority of our time. It is right off the kitchen, so I can cook and still keep an eye on Carson while she plays, paints, etc. Also the screen porch is off of this room, so in nice weather the door stays open so that we can enjoy the fresh air and play both inside and out. It really is the perfect set up!

In Dallas we didn't have a playroom, so we had the toys sort of spread out around the house. Now that all of her toys are neatly organized and put away in this room, it allows us some adult space in the front of the house. Plus, it works out great that all that she has in her room are books.....nothing distracting to lure her out of bed at night. (well besides her obsession with her books)

I have worked really hard to purchase good quality toys! It is important to me that her things be safe, nontoxic, and green when possible. Luckily most of the toy companies that fit that criteria also design amazingly creative and stimulating toys!

Obviously my go to store, when it comes to playroom stuff, is Ikea. While it can be overwhelming to shop there, I have found that if you know what you are looking for specifically, it is well worth it. There stuff looks great for what it costs!

So, continuing along with the little house tour....we move into the dining room.

Everyday China-wedding gifts, Johnson Brothers. Wine glasses, Marquis. When setting my table I typically try to mix the everything together, so that it does not seem so matchy and traditional.

Its small and simple and full of light! I purposely did not put up curtains, in fact I decided not to curtain any of the windows in the front rooms. Since the house was built in the 20's, there are these huge framed windows that let the sun pour in. It is amazing!

When we first moved in, every room in the house was a different dreadful color. After a 48 hour paint-a-thon it looked completely transformed. Oh the power of paint! All the colors that I picked were the Behr Ultra Premium, primer and paint in one, from the Home Depot of course! It literally took one coat. (The color is called Anonymous, FYI. )

I'm sure that it is noticeable that the walls are pretty bare. I have a project that I am working on that will take up a whole wall. I'm really excited to post about it soon! After that I will be, hopefully, getting some of our favorite photographs up from different trips we have taken in the last few years. Always more to do right?

Also........




Carson and I had the most fun today running around in the yard finding new blooms. I am so excited for our first Spring to discover what all will be growing in this wild yard. So far we have found some beauties!

Carson dragged the wagon around while I trimmed a few of the bushes in the yard. We brought them in the house and made little arrangements. Within an hour the sweet smell filled all the rooms. This is one of the many reasons I fell in love with this house!

Anatomy of a Room

Moving from a larger home in Dallas to a much smaller one here in Atlanta forced me to do something I was longing to do, simplify! I had no choice but to clean out the excess and leave a good amount of our belongings behind. Now we are surrounded by things that we need and love and nothing else. My style of decorating is always evolving, but what I have found to be constant is my appreciation of a good mix of colors, textures, and materials. Also, I love an object with a good story behind it!

So..... I thought it would be fun to do a little house tour series! After six months of living in "The White House," as my two year old refers to it, things are starting to feel like home. There is still plenty of decorating and projects to be done, all of which I plan to share. Until then, here are some pictures of what has already been accomplished.
